- the top number says how many parts we have
- bottom number how many equals parts the whole is divided into.
- the large the denominator the more pieces the whole is split up into and the smaller the pieces.

There are two different types: proper and improper:
Proper: Is where the numerator is less than the denominator
improper: Is where the numerator is greater than the denominator

I think fractions are fundamental to understand. It is one of those basic concepts that later you will build on to be able to do other problem solving and help in your thinking process.

Nice and informative post ! I like that you chose to define the math function before getting into doing the work, I find this is a great teaching strategy to make sure students understand how to use a math function beforehand. Great idea to make fractions lesson into an interactive form of learning.

Luisa I love how you have broken down how fractions can be equivalent to each other. When I used to work in an after school program some students struggled a lot with fractions because they either had to make a fraction that is equal, lesser, or more. I would try to show them in multiply ways so they can better understand it. If I had these worksheets available, it would have helped them and benefit them more. This was a great post.
