Geometry Scavenger Hunt
Our math activity one day was to take part in a geometry scavenger hunt around the building in search of different geometric lines and shapes. Armed with iPad cameras, students found geometry in places they had never thought of before. Upon returning to the room, each group connected their iPad to the interactive whiteboard and shared their findings with the class.
Let us learn our shapes
It is very important for us to understand the common shapes there are, so we can later go into all the funs things we can go into.
Let us see how much we have learned
For next class let us think about the area of these objects and how they are different?
The end
Hi Luisa. Great post! I like that you incorporated technology. I believe that using technology in the classroom is a wonderful way to engage students. Your second activity is an excellent informal assessment, and it can help the teacher monitor the student's comprehension by asking the student "how many different shapes do you see?" This open dialogue can help the teacher make adjustments to instruction if students are having difficulties or need to be more challenging. I loved how your activities build on one another. It is an excellent way to show students that the concepts are connected.
ReplyDeleteHi Luisa,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all this post caught my eye from the very beginning because I love scavenger hunts. I think they are a great learning tool to incorporate in the classroom. Its amazing to see how students work and they use all of their prior knowledge to discover more knowledge. Like you said there were some shapes that the student found that you might have never thought of. It important for students to share their thoughts and knowledge with their classmates because that helps the whole class learn something new as well. I really enjoyed reading this post, Great Job!
