Angles

We are aware that first, there is a line that has a beginning and end point call it a ray.

The angle formed between the two rays is a vertex and is measured in degrees. We use coordinates to graph and solve equations.

Straight angles

An angle is a fraction of a circle where the whole is 360 degrees. Two angles which together measure 180 are called supplementary. Two angles that when added equals 90 degrees are complementary.

Basics****

Lets us find some angles: Which am I?

angles in things around us real life example

Now to recap and make sure we are all in the same:

let's singAn acute angle is a little so small,
Right angle in the corner of a wall,
Obtuse angle at 2:50 in day-time,
Straight angle in a straw in soda-lime!
So many angles all around, even in a mime!

Geometrics

    Geometry Scavenger Hunt

Our math activity one day was to take part in a geometry scavenger hunt around the building in search of different geometric lines and shapes. Armed with iPad cameras, students found geometry in places they had never thought of before. Upon returning to the room, each group connected their iPad to the interactive whiteboard and shared their findings with the class.

Let us learn our shapes

It is very important for us to understand the common shapes there are, so we can later go into all the funs things we can go into.

Let us see how much we have learned

For next class let us think about the area of these objects and how they are different?

Conquer Problem Solving

3 Strategies to keep in mind as a student:

- Get confident!!
- Most kids have a step by step to solve but it is good
- teachers want students to excel quickly but with problems, we must go slow.

3 Strategies to solve problems

- Teach a routine: Make a before, during and after list. Create flexible thinkers and build confidence. A routine pushes students to slow down.  Incorporate turn and teach which helps everyone expresses thoughts and ideas.  Last strategy share where some students share the methods they use to solve.

- Differentiate word problems: Adjust numbers or remove distractors as they read the problem. Scaffolding will help you gain confidence and improve problem-solving. Start with a simple version. This is good when teaching the different structure of a word problems to go with certain operations.

-Compare problems side by side: flexible thinking allows to analyze and compare word problems. Start using problems that have similar stories and numbers. Use visual representation and have students discuss the different operations.

Use these strategies to thinking and talking about problem-solving strategy.

Division
Is splitting into different parts or groups.
Opposite of multiplicating
Learn your multiplication tables so division will be easy.

Get familiar with....

dividend ÷ divisor = quotient
ex 12/ 3= 4

Image result for division
It does not always work perfectly

ex 7/2 = 3 remainder 1

Let's do this together

I like all the learning path so far not only to refresh concepts, but it is fun to see ways to engage students in learning. I have learned a lot of simple ways to teach concepts and activities to make all concepts a little easier to understand.

Multiplication time

Fun ways to multiplicate:::

hands-on multiplication       hands-on multiplication    hands-on multiplication

It is important to practice and make multiplication/ division in a very fun way. It is used throughout our whole life. It comes up as soon as fractions start in mathematics.

Lets practice ....

Subtracting Negative Numbers:
- subtracting is like adding the opposite of the number.
Rule 1: Subtracting a positive number from a positive number—this is normal subtraction.
Rule 2: Subtracting a positive number from a negative number—start at the negative number, and count backward the additional amount you’re subtracting.
Rule 3: Subtracting a negative number from a negative number—when you see the subtraction (minus) sign followed by a negative sign, turn the two signs into a plus sign. Thus, instead of subtracting a negative, you are adding a positive. So, – -5 becomes +5, and continue normally with the addition.
 ex -5-3= -8
No sign **** usually means is positive
Let us think
If we have balloons and we add positive numbers. We will have more ballons.
If we subtract positive numbers we are going backward. Therefore you losing ballons.
If we add a negative number. we are adding more weight to go down add subtract +- goes down

Never Forget
-Two like signs become a positive
-two, unlike signs, become a negative

I love this assignment because I could see how kids may get confused. I think that by being able to follow a diagram or a visual image as a explain lets them get better and more practical at this challenge.

What does a fraction mean?
- How many parts of a whole
- the top number says how many parts we have
- bottom number how many equals parts the whole is divided into.
- the large the denominator the more pieces the whole is split up into and the smaller the pieces.
- it is expressed in a/b form

https://study.com/academy/lesson/what-is-a-fraction-definition-and-types.html

There are two different types: proper and improper:
Proper: Is where the numerator is less than the denominator
improper: Is where the numerator is greater than the denominator

Remember:

Lets put the theory to practice. Let's do this together :

Image result for what does a fraction mean
I think fractions are fundamental to understand. It is one of those basic concepts that later you will build on to be able to do other problem solving and help in your thinking process.
